Multistyle violinist | Composer | Educator
Born in Thessaloniki, Greece, Chris Kosides started to play the violin at the age of 6.
For him, everything began when he was a live orchestra concert on the TV as a kid. Chris’ passion for improvisation and jazz was clear at an early age. While he was on his classical studies he explored different genres such as gypsy jazz, songwriting & electronic music. Experiencing this transition it made him want to see new things, travel abroad and dive deeper into music. He lived 6 years in The Netherlands where he studied classical and jazz music with Tim Kliphuis broadening even more his artistic approach and skills.
He is the founder member of an international jazz-folk string quartet named “Dot Quartet” based in Rotterdam, a member of a gypsy jazz quartet with guitarist Dennis Pol based in Athens and a jazz violin duo “Divarco based in Thessaloniki . Chris has performed at several recordings & venues throughout Europe such as Bimhuis, Blue Note Amsterdam, De Doelen, Technopolis & Athens Concert Hall. In 2015 he released with his string quartet their first album “Travelers” and toured throughout Spain, Canary Islands, The Netherlands, France and Greece. During these past years he collaborated and performed with artists such as: Dennis Pol, Nathaniel Belows, Voodrish, Donald Grant, Tim Kliphuis, Gordan Nikolić, Elena Malamou, Manouchedrome, Theodoris Voutsikakis, Milcho Leviev, Mercury Rev to name a few.
Chris’ other artistic side is drawing and photography. Most of his artwork and design was created for his projects he was part of. Now he focuses on teaching violin and recording of his new personal album.
